End of Spring Term Letter from Tom

Friday 3rd April 2020

Dear Mums, Dads and Carers,

Coronavirus Update

It feels really strange writing this letter to you at the end of a term that has been like no other term any of us have ever had at school. Normally, we would be in the middle of Easter celebrations, thinking about Spring and how we are coming out of a long winter and we would have had our first Seven Mills Climate Conference, highlighting all the brilliant work the children have done on their shared topic of Saving Planet Earth. Instead, I am writing to say thank you to all our families and how they have supported the school in ensuring that the children are still learning even though school is closed. It has been wonderful to receive photos and videos from homes and the NHS posters have been particularly moving as they show how caring our children are even when their own lives are so different from normal.

Thank you and Goodbye

Unfortunately, today is the last day that Emma Hutchinson will be teaching at Seven Mills. Emma has been at Seven Mills for three and half years and has done fantastic work in teaching the children. I know it is really hard for Emma to leave without saying goodbye to her class. She has loved working with them and will really miss them. Everyone at Seven Mills wishes Emma all the best in the next stage in her career.

For the summer term, Matthew will be setting the work for Year 3 and we are really pleased to let you know that from September we have recruited Ayesha Ali-Patel, an experienced teacher from Globe Primary School. Ayesha will also be leading Maths at Seven Mills and brings with her vast experience of leading Art and Philosophy for Children at her current school.

Can I also say a massive thank you to all the staff who have come into school to work to make sure that we are open for the children of key workers and vulnerable children. It is a difficult time for everyone but their dedication to Seven Mills, the children and our community is admirable, I am very proud to have every one of them as part of our team. Without them, the school would not have been able to function and our key workers would not have been able to do the really important jobs needed of them.

Home learning

Thank you again for your support with the home learning. Your feedback suggests that it has been a real success and the children are able to access some pertinent learning from home. In order for us to adapt the home learning for next half term, we are asking parents to complete this online survey: https://forms.gle/ACAcNnAQ8TRhKUK56. Thank you to all of those parents who have already responded to this. IF you have not yet done so, your feedback will make sure that the children get the correct learning and resources that you can support with at home.

Easter

Seven Mills will be closed to all families over the Easter break. If you are a key worker and need childcare for your children, Cubitt Town will be open for families. Please contact me if you think you may be eligible for this. You will not be receiving daily messages from the class teachers over this fortnight but I will be in regular contact with you via SchoolPing with any updates and some fun family activities for you to do at home. If you need any support please call 0207 987 2350 between 9AM and 3PM and someone should be able to answer your call. Please try again if there is no answer.

Summer Term

We will be in touch with you as soon as possible with details of how the summer term will look at Seven Mills. We do plan to deliver packs of learning and resources to you at some point next half term so that the children can continue learning at home. Again, we will send more details as soon as we have them.

Finally, please all of you stay safe and stay at home.

Take care

Tom and Everyone at Seven Mills
